Baldur's Gate 3 presents players with numerous high-stakes choices and emergent situations that demand quick thinking. One such thrilling encounter takes place in Act 1 at Waukeen's Rest, a burning inn under attack by goblins and drow. Navigating the fiery chaos requires a careful approach to ensure you can save the survivors trapped within the crumbling structures.

Locating the Burning Inn and Preparing Your Party

As you explore the northern reaches of the Act 1 map, you will stumble upon Waukeen's Rest engulfed in flames. Before breaching the doors, it is highly recommended to split your party or enter turn-based mode immediately. This strategic choice prevents the environmental fire from spreading dynamically and consuming victims before you can act.

You will notice Flaming Fist soldiers attempting to break down the main doors to save Counsellor Florrick. While assisting them is important, the trapped man named Benryn is located in a separate upstairs room in the adjoining building. Ensuring your party has access to water spells or ice arrows will make navigating the intense heat significantly easier.

Reaching Benryn and Clearing the Debris

To find the trapped man, head to the upper floor of the western building by climbing the shattered walkway. Once you reach the correct room, you will discover Benryn pinned beneath a heavy wooden beam surrounded by spreading flames. You must act quickly because the structural integrity of the room degrades with every passing turn.

Interact with the beam and succeed in a Strength check to lift the debris off his body. If you fail this check, you can also use the Help action to assist him in crawling out from underneath the wreckage. Once freed, Benryn will temporarily join your active party as a companion so you can guide him to safety.

Escaping the Fire and Completing the Quest

Getting Benryn out of the room is only half the battle, as the corridor outside is likely filled with choking smoke and fire. Utilizing spells like Create Water or tossing water barrels can open a safe pathway through the inferno. Moving efficiently ensures that neither your party members nor the rescued NPC succumb to burning damage.

Once you guide Benryn safely outside the burning building, he will mourn the tragic loss of his wife, Mirileth. Following his dialogue will lead you to look for her body to recover a hidden ring, adding an emotional conclusion to the rescue. Completing this intense encounter rewards you with valuable experience points and potential future allies.
